Tea & Talk: What Trump’s Asia Trip Means for Indonesia, 4 November

Tue, 28 Oct 2025

U.S. President Donald Trump arrived in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday, where he attended the ASEAN Summit, signed reciprocal trade deals with Malaysia and Cambodia, concluded framework trade pacts with Thailand and Vietnam, and oversaw a truce agreement between Thailand and Cambodia.

The Malaysian trade deal could serve as a model for Indonesia, which aims to finalize its own tariff agreement by the end of the year as President Prabowo Subianto seeks to deepen ties with the world’s largest economy while advancing his nationalist economic vision. Questions remain over how this could affect Indonesia’s access to U.S. markets and how Trump’s “America First” agenda may shape U.S.–Indonesia relations moving forward.

Join us for an exclusive discussion, hosted by The Asia Group (TAG) and the Jakarta Foreign Correspondents Club (JFCC), to unpack these timely developments and what they signal for the future of U.S.–Indonesia economic and bilateral relations.
